Head of the English Department

I lead the English Department at Premier School Dhaka, managing a team of exceptional English teachers who work with middle and final-year students. PSD follows the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, consistently achieving excellent results in the IGCSE exams.

This year, one of our students, Daniya Humayera Binte Zuhair, topped the 2024 Cambridge International AS Level English Language exam.

Language Instructor & Assistant Coordinator at LPC - English Access Microscholarship Program, Bangladesh

Besides teaching in a school, I also have been working as an Assistant Coordinator and a Language Instructor for the U.S. Department of State's English Access Microscholarship Program at Language Proficiency Center Ltd. In the Access Program, my students are between 13 to 17 years old. During this period, they usually enter college (12th grade) after finishing high school (10th grade), therefore, they find guidance for their next steps and an opportunity to enhance their English skills here. This transition period allows me to observe and appreciate the change in their thinking and understanding.

Usually, a typical Access class comes after a day gap in our center, as they have classes 3 days a week, and they come back to every class with excitement to learn something new through language drills, discussions, and collaborative projects. They attend the class with a pair of teachers who focus on specific language skills, such as writing, speaking, and critical thinking; these may involve practical exercises, presentations, and creative projects. They also participate in extracurricular activities related to the English language, such as book clubs, language clubs, or public speaking events.

My favorite topic to teach is creative writing but for the Access students, I chose making engaging lessons that help them to develop their public speaking skills and simultaneously broaden their minds.

I find this challenging because when they come to the Access program, they come almost empty. They never talked in English before in their academic schools. They never exchanged ideas of boys and girls together. They always felt shy. They had a lack of confidence.

However, after training, when we see them speaking English, it gives us great satisfaction. Therefore, for me, the best topic or course that brings the greatest sense of fulfillment or satisfaction is breaking their shyness and making them think about the current world.
